Berkeley is at a crossroads

State and federal takeaways have left the City without enough funds for basic services and needed upgrades.

Measures U and V keep our local tax dollars in Berkeley — funding fire safety, infrastructure, and core services that outside forces can't touch.

$300 Million

For vital infrastructure projects our community needs.

$10 Million

Annually for essential public safety services like police, fire, and youth programming.

The Measures

Keeping Berkeley Safe and Vibrant

Measures U and V fund the fire safety, infrastructure, and ongoing city services Berkeley needs — with local money outside forces can't touch.

Measure U — Keeps Berkeley Infrastructure Safe

Measure U upgrades unsafe fire stations, repairs sidewalks and cutouts, deteriorating park bathrooms, and prepares Berkeley for wildfire and sea-level risk, citywide.

Measure U funds:

Replacing aging fire stations and an upgraded 911 dispatch center

Safer, ADA-compliant sidewalks, curb ramps, and pathways

Green-infrastructure upgrades that cut flood risk and Bay pollution

Park bathroom, playground, and community-center renovations citywide

A defined, transparent, community-built plan

Measure U was built from feedback from hundreds of residents, tracked by a public project list, and will be eligible for matching grant funds. Full plan: tinyurl.com/2026BerkBond

Measure V — Keeps Berkeley Core Services Funded

Measure V is a modest local measure that brings Berkeley to the same sales tax level as our Oakland and Albany neighbors and helps close Berkeley's structural budget gap — preventing immediate cuts to police, fire, and youth services.

Measure V protects:

Keeping Fire Station 4 open and staffed, keeping firefighters working citywide

911 emergency response and neighborhood safety patrols

Afterschool programs and youth services

Clean, safe parks and public spaces

The basics are exempt from Measure V.

Measure V is not a tax on homes, food purchased as groceries, or prescription medication. Full Measure here: tinyurl.com/BerkMeasureV

League of Women Voters and City Auditor Wong endorse Measures U and V because they are accountable to you.

Measures U and V were shaped by hundreds of Berkeley residents through  in person community feedback sessions, a community feedback portal, and input from Berkeley commissions and the Mayor’s Vision 2050 Task Force.

All Measure U and V spending is subject to independent City Auditor review, and regular public financial disclosures to ensure funds are spent as promised to voters. The public project list for Measure U is here.
